Dar es Salaam, Tanzania — June 26, 2024 — Heifer International Tanzania, in collaboration with Sahara Ventures, has launched the highly anticipated AYuTe Africa Challenge Tanzania 2024. This national competition offers a compelling opportunity for young Tanzanian AgriTech entrepreneurs to showcase their innovative solutions and compete for a total prize pool of$22,500 $25,500 (over 63.7 million TZS).

Championing Young Agritech Talent

The AYuTe Africa Challenge Tanzania serves as a platform for young minds with ideas to transform the agricultural sector. By providing a platform to pitch solutions that address challenges faced by smallholder farmers, the competition aims to ultimately boost farmer income and productivity.

Mark Tsoxo, Country Program Director for Heifer International Tanzania, highlighted the critical role the AYuTe Africa Challenge plays in empowering young innovators. “This initiative provides a unique chance for them to secure funding and gain the necessary visibility to scale their AgriTech solutions, creating a significant impact on millions of farmers across Africa,” he stated.

Beyond the attractive prize money, the AYuTe Africa Challenge Tanzania offers invaluable mentorship opportunities. This expert guidance helps young innovators refine their ideas and translate them into real-world solutions that benefit smallholder farmers throughout Tanzania.

With a substantial youth population and a wealth of untapped arable land, Heifer International Tanzania recognizes the strategic importance of fostering innovation in agriculture. The AYuTe Africa Challenge Tanzania directly addresses this need, promoting self-sufficiency, increased agricultural productivity, and aligning with the government’s goals of reducing and ultimately eliminating youth unemployment.

Speaking at the launch event, Mr. Jumanne Mtambalike, CEO of Sahara Ventures, emphasized the significance of the collaboration with Heifer International Tanzania. “Our partnership focuses on supporting young Tanzanians engaged in innovative and technological agricultural ventures. We aim to empower them to bring their solutions to market and generate employment opportunities,” he stated. Mr. Mtambalike further highlighted the crucial role of agriculture in Africa’s economy, with over 65% of jobs and 32% of GDP on the continent stemming from this sector.

Prize details

This year’s AYuTe Africa Challenge Tanzania boasts an even more enticing prize structure. Mr. Emmanuel Senzighe, Project Manager of the AYuTe Africa Challenge Tanzania, announced a total cash award of $22,500 distributed amongst the top three winners:

1st Place: $10,000

2nd Place: $7,500

3rd Place: $5,000
